The Well Community of Churches

As a network of simple churches, The Well consists of groups gathering in homes across America.

The Well got it's start in Southern California so for time being there's a greater number of groups meeting in the SoCal area, but there are new churches in our family forming up in other regions as well. Perhaps there's one in your area — or maybe you'll be the next person God leads to start one.

Simple Churches Within The Well Network

Southern California

The Well — Chino Hills, Ca

We are a mixture of ages and backgrounds. We are pretty simple when it comes to our meetings. We gather for a meal and ask Jesus to lead us in the direction he wants to lead us.

The Well — Fullerton, CA

We meet at Woodglen Recovery Junction (an in-patient detox and 90-day alcohol and drug recovery program). Each week we've met so far there have been 5 or 6 attendees to our Bible study on the 7 miracle stories in John. Two or more who come are unbelievers, and usually very uninformed about the Bible. Several more people have expressed an interest in getting involved. I'm praying that God will identify individuals with potential for more personalized training/discipleship, and that they will be willing to start new studies of their own soon after they leave the recovery program.

The Well — Placentia, CA

  • We've moved from being building and event focused to lifestyle and family focused. Church is no longer an event to go to or a building to assemble in. We meet together, but church is more like a family. You don't go to family; you are family. It's based on relationship and lifestyle.
  • Church is missional rather than attractional. We're looking to make disciples rather than converts.
  • We no longer need specially trained people to do all the work of ministry. Ordinary people are fully equipped to minister. The clergy/laity distinction is becoming less and less relevant.
  • The Church is expected to multiply out--to reproduce--rather than getting larger.
  • Jesus is head of his church and ordinary people can be trusted to hear the Holy Spirit.
  • Our times together are becoming simpler and therefore reproducible. Everyone participates in what goes on.
  • Leadership is servanthood.
  •  Our meetings are organic in nature and therefore whatever Jesus, as the Head of His Church, through the Holy Spirit brings through each individual is what we discuss or study.

Western Pennsylvania

The Well — Pittsburgh, Pa

We meet each week to worship God, study His Word, and edify each other to strengthen our individual walks with God. We share in the Lord's Supper (Brunch) at every gathering, which is a meal that includes a special bread and cup.

Prayer is an important aspect to the group. "Spontaneous" prayers often arise for individuals, people groups, countries, etc...

Singing is common (most every week). Singing songs to and about our Lord has been important since the birth of this church. Everyone is welcome to request a song, play/sing one themselves. The kids often request songs and play instruments (bongo drums, kazoos, rain stick, tambourines, etc...)

Hosts: Matt & Kelly Cable
Meeting Time: 10:30am Sundays (usually lasts 2 hours)
Meeting Place: We rotate meetings from house to house (changes weekly)
Group size/make-up: 8-10 Adults, 2 teenagers, 8 children under six
